#20 Acorn Fun Fold with Painted Harvest and Scissor Box Giveaway! 20 Years, 20 Posts

Welcome to post 20!!  Thank you for sticking with me through all 20 posts!  I though it would be fun to celebrate with a giveaway of the scissor box complete with a pair of Paper Snips.  See below for details!  Today's card is with the new Autumn Harvest Designer Series Paper and the Painted Harvest bundle. The bundle is made up of the Painted Harvest Stamp set and the coordinating Leaf Punch. This stamp set has beautiful flowers, which you can see in this post. But for this card I wanted to focus on the Acorn pattern in the paper and the matching acorn stamp.   The Painted Autumn Suite of products are available to order on September 1st, 2017 - that's tomorrow!

This fun fold card is called a Joy Fold.  You open the first flap (which is made from the largest Lots of Labels framelit die) to see the second flap with the glorious acorns.

When you open the acorn flap, you see the inside greeting. 

For the greeting on this card I used the Pretty Label Punch and backed it with the Everyday Label punch (in Early Espresso card stock).  I stamped the leaves on Crumb Cake card stock - the detail leaf first in Early Espresso ink and then I stamped the solid leaf on top of it in Crumb Cake ink. I punched out the leaves and cut them apart, tucking two in the top corner and the other in the bottom opposite corner.

The paper on the left side of the card is from the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper stack, 6" x 6". I love how versatile this paper is!!  And there are several different patterns of the wood the coordinate beautifully with the acorn clolors! I finished the card off with the Crumb Cake 3/8" classic weave ribbon.

Card details and dimensions:

Very Vanilla card stock 4 1/4" x 8 1/2, scored at 5 1/2" for card base.

Very Vanilla card stock 3" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4" and folded in half.

Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper 2 3/4" x 4"

Wood Textures Designer Series Paper 1" x 4"

Scraps of Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, and Very Vanilla for punching

To cut the top flap, use the largest framelit from the Lots of Labels framelit dies. Place it on top of the folded piece of Very Vanilla (see dimensions above) extending the upper portion above the fold as shown.  Send it through the Big Shot.

#19 Crafting Forever Scissor Box - 20 Years, 20 Posts

Do you need a gift for a crafter?  I have a perfect solution!  This adorable box has scissors on top....

...and scissors inside!  Paper Snips in fact.  The best little crafting scissors ever!  I have a video tutorial and a photo tutorial for you today, so let's get started.

I made these boxes originally as a special gift for the leaders on my team who attended our Crafternoon Tea.  I made the entire box out of Designer Series Paper (the Fresh Florals Paper Stack). I saved one of the Berry Burst boxes (my favorite new In Color) to use for my video demonstrator today, however, there was an unforeseen incident that caused me to have to remake the box and to make it sturdier then the original.

Meet my unforeseen circumstance, also known as Mercy, my 15 month old Whippet pup. Apparently the ribbon on the outside of the box proved irresistible and it was even more fun when she got inside and found the paper shreddie - wheeee! 

So I made my NEW sample out of card stock (although I have no doubt that she could trash that in a heartbeat too). This box is more substantial and holds up to whatever you want to put inside it. The box design was inspired by Pootles Slender Box, I just changed the dimensions to make a box that fit the Paper Snips.  You can see Pootles project here.

Start with a piece of card stock (or Designer Paper) that is 7 1/4" x 8 1/2"

On the LONG side, score at 1", 4", 5", and 8".  

Rotate the paper, and on the SHORT side, score at 1" and 6 1/4".

One end will have a 1" scored area or rectangle. The opposite end (the end nearest you in this photo) will have a 1/2" scored area. Cut off the side panels on the end with the 1/2" scored area. The 1/2" area will form the flap on the top of the box. 

Next cut the "tabs" that form the bottom of the box.  Cutting a slender wedge from each side will make box assembly easier. Place Tear & Tape on each tab and assemble the box.   

I used a 3/4" Circle Punch to cut out a finger tip notch on the flap of the lid. Just fold down the flap, slide it in the punch, and punch on the fold through both layers. I used the Crafting Forever stamp set to stamp my greeting and the scissors.  I added a rhinestone over the rivet area of the scissors after coloring them with the watercolor pencils and the blender pen.

I like to have a designated pair of "ribbon only" scissors in my craft room.  I only use these on fabric so they stay sharp and are not dulled by paper and adhesives.

To designate these as "ribbon only" scissors, I tied a piece of Berry Burst 1/2" Finely Woven Ribbon to the handle. Then I used a hot glue gun to attach a Berry Burst In Color Bitty Bow to the knot of the 1/2" tied ribbon.

#18 Three Sweet Birthday Memories Cards - 20 Posts, 20 Years

I'm excited to share these adorable birthday cards with you today - they share the same layout but each is unique! All are made with the Birthday Memories Suite of products.  This suite makes quick and easy birthday cards because the framelit dies are made to cut out images in the designer paper (like the dog, cupcake girl, and balloon on these cards). So these images don't require coloring, just die cut them out and add them to the card! I used a 1" x 5 1/2" strip of the multicolored striped pattern from the Birthday Memories Designer Paper along the bottom edge of all three cards.

Here is a close up of the cupcake girl.  She is bringing your birthday friends a special cupcake - she is so sweet with her vintage look!  The small cupcake next to greeting also comes from the patterned paper - I punched it out with a 1/2" circle punch.

As you can see, I could have punched out 14 cupcakes instead of just one - you get a lot on this paper!  This is how I laid the images in the Big Shot so that I could cut them all at the same time. 

The pastry chef is not from the paper - he is a stamp that comes in the coordinating Birthday Delivery stamps set. I stamped him in Archival Black on Thick Whisper White card stock and cut him out with the coordinating framelit die.  The cute frosting words "Happy Birthday" are also from the same set stamped in Real Red ink.

Coloring on the pastry chef is super easy because his outfit is white!  I took the watercolor pencils and did a messy scribble with Pacific Point on his scarf and frosting tube, then I scribbled a little Calypso Coral on each cheek.  I used the blender pen to smooth out the scribbles and fill in the white spaces - very quick and easy.

No surprise here, but the dog is my favorite (imagine that!!).  There are many different adorable poodle images on the sheet - the framelit matches this one. This cute poodle is delivering a birthday balloon!  See below on how I attached the balloon and string to the card.

This photo shows how I placed the dimensionals on all of the characters and decorations.  I laid the Baker's twine for the balloon on top of the sticky dimensional to hold it in place.

Then on the front of the poodle card I adhered the balloon to the card and then tacked down the string with a glue dot.  The poodle's muzzle will go right where the glue dot is.

Now there is no exposed glue dot and the poodle looks like he is carrying the balloon.

All three cards share the same inside greeting - love this banner stamp, so fun!

#17 Four Fabulous Fall Cards That Sparkle And Shine - 20 Years, 20 Posts

Fall is coming! Can you see the few leaves that have started turning on the tree above Winston's head at the top of this photo? The picture was taken this morning on our walk / jog around the lake. Fall is one of my favorite times of year - here in Minnesota it is the best weather of the year! So I love to make fall cards but I usually keep them very nature focused. But my fabulous Stampfield Stars team members have showed me I am missing out on a major "bling" opportunity!! The four cards I am sharing today are just a few of the awesome swap cards from our recent team swap.  I will be sharing more of the swap cards once the Holiday Catalog begins.  But today we are just going to look at four beauties with bling!

Carole Baumgartner made this gorgeous card using the Colorful Seasons Bundle. I believe she used the baby wipe method to stamp the colorful leaves (drop different colors of ink refill on a baby wipe to make a temporary multi colored ink pad, than ink up your stamp on the baby wipe). The background was embossed with the Woodlands embossing folder.

But what I really love about this card are the lovely touches of gold because they really shine!  You can see them a little better in this photo because I am holding the card and tilting it so that it catches the light. Carole used the Gold Foil Paper to great effect here - the gold leaves are lovely and the small strip at the end of the greeting helps carry over the gold theme.  Love it!

This lovely card by Linda Ferris is made with the Vintage Leaves stamp set and the Leaflets framelits dies.  Love these rich colors: Cajun Craze, So Saffron, and Tranquil Tide!

The shimmer on this card comes from the Wink of Stella Glimmer Brush applied to the leaves. Plenty of shine here too with the rhinestones and the clear embossed greeting from the Colorful Seasons stamp set.

This card by Jeannine Froberg is loaded with new Holiday Catalog items! A new stamp set called Pick A Pumpkin with the Patterned Pumpkins thinlits dies and the lovely Painted Autumn paper.

Here is close up shot of the bling - a single rhinestone that sets off this card beautifully!

Kathie Strenge also used the Painted Autumn designer paper on her lovely card - and the same pattern! This stunning sunflower is made with the Eastern Medallion Thinlits dies - so beautiful!  The leaf Kathie used comes from the new Painted Harvest set which has a coordinating Leaf Punch.

In this close up you can see the texture from the Softly Falling embossing folder in the flower center.  And can you see the bling?! One Crushed Curry Glitter Enamel Dot which sets off the greeting (also from Painted Harvest) perfectly! #16 Birthday Piggy - 20 Years, 20 Posts

This little piggy is just the cutest!!  I wanted to make a birthday card with this set so I combined the pig with the fun Birthday Memories paper and the coordinating Birthday Friends framelit dies. I did some creative play with the stamps in the set (and added in a stamp from another set) to make my inside birthday message.

As you can see in this photo of the Little Piggy stamp set images the stamp that pairs with "This little piggy..." is the "Says Thanks" stamp.  Well, I wanted "Says Happy Birthday" so this is what I did....

On the inside of the card, I stamped "Says Thanks" and then covered it up with a strip of the striped pattern from the Birthday Memories Designer Paper.  Then I stamped the "Happy Birthday" message from the Sprinkles of Life stamp set and punched it out with the Classic Label punch.  That gave me the birthday greeting that I wanted without having to do any masking or omitting on the stamp itself.

I stamped the pig on Thick Very Vanilla card stock and watercolored it with ink refills (I used Blushing Bride and Smoky Slate) and the Aqua Painter.  I swooshed the brush on a scrap paper repeatedly to lighten the color and to minimize how much water got on to my paper.  Since the thick vanilla paper is not watercolor paper or coated like the Shimmery White paper, you can't saturate the paper repeatedly or it will pill. So I colored the pig with just one or two continuous brush strokes.

The birthday hat from the Birthday Memories paper fits the pig perfectly!

You could fussy cut out the hat - but if you have the Birthday Friends dies you don't have too!

Just drop the die on the hat that you want and send it through your Big Shot Die Cut Machine!

#15 Floral Cat in Navy and White - 20 Posts, 20 Years

Hello! Today is National Dog Day (or so Facebook tells me) - so I am celebrating by posting a cat card - lol!  This technique is called Two Tiered Eclipse. With the recent eclipse this is the time to share it! We will get to dogs at the end of this post because, as many of you know, I am a dog lover (although I like cats and horses too) and one of my dogs had a very big day on Friday...but more about that later.

The Two Tier Eclipse Technique is often done with large die cut letters but it works just as well with other images and with punches - like this adorable new Cat Punch from the Holiday Catalog (available to purchase on September 1st!). The basic technique is to cut out an image, put the pieces back together, and then stamp across both.  Then remove the punched image and pop it up on dimensionals.  Here are some tips for successfully creating this technique.

I started by punching the cat out of a 2 3/4" x 3 3/4"piece of Whisper White.  I slide the punch all the way in (until you can't go any farther) and then punched.

I found that post it notes are helpful with this technique. I placed a post it note behind the white piece that I had punched out of, with the sticky portion in the opening of the cat shape (yes, these are black post it notes that someone gave me - not so good for writing on but perfect for this use!). Now place the punched cat back into the negative space that it came from, pushing it down on to the sticky part of the note. This will hold your cat in place so it doesn't stick to the inky stamp.

You can just barely make out the edges of the punched cat when I put it back in the negative space! Stamp the floral image from the Wood Words in Night of Navy classic ink.  Press the stamp firmly and hold it down on the paper for the count of 5. By holding it down longer you will get less of a "halo effect" - the white space around the punched edge.  Obviously I did not hold it down long enough on this piece -oops!

The kitty face stamp is from the Spooky Cat set which is available as a bundle (for a 10% discount) with the Cat Punch.  I stamped the face in Night of Navy ink and added the "hello" greeting from the Tabs for Everything stamp set.

To accentuate the "eclipse" effect you can add additional punched or die cut images behind the first, in a contrasting color, making it "thicker" with colored sides.

I adhered two Night of Navy punched cats behind the stamped cat - now it is thicker with colorful sides.

Assemble your card, add the gingham ribbon, and pop up the stamped cat on Dimensionals and Mini Dimensionals. I cut a mini dimensional in half for the tale.

Here is an example of the Two Tier Eclipse with the Large Letters Dies.  I used Crushed Curry and Cherry Cobbler inks with the new stamp Gourd Goodness from the upcoming Holiday Catalog (September 1st - just a few days away!).  I will share more cards like this that I made in a future post.

Now the dogs get a turn in the spotlight!  Yesterday I showed my Whippet Pups at the Lake Elmo Minnesota dog show.

This is a large show and there were 88 Whippets entered on Friday, lots of gorgeous dogs and some VERY stiff competition!!  This is my female puppy Mercy and I, 2nd from the right (I'm really stressed in this photo - trying to get her to stack up perfectly)!

I'm a novice at handling so I was absolutely thrilled when Mercy won her class - finishing ahead of some fabulous females! I'm making "smoochy" sounds (those of you with dogs will know what I mean) in this photo to try to get her to run faster - as you can tell by my face - tee hee!

#14 Floral Statements Goes Vintage With Wood Textures - 20 Years, 20 Posts

Hello! Need instant vintage? Just grab your package of Wood Textures designer paper, pick out the white peeling paint pattern, and stamp a beautiful floral on it!  A little coloring, add a bow and you have pretty vintage card!

#13 Halloween K Cup Tote with Merry Cafe and Spooky Night Paper - 20 years, 20 posts

Blog post 13 out of the 20 consecutive posts this month to celebrate my 20 years as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator!  Seems appropriate that post 13 is a Halloween themed project!! This adorable little tote holds a Carmel Apple Cider K Cup and is decorated with the Merry Cafe stamp set from the upcoming Holiday Catalog.  This set coordinates with the Coffee Cup Framelit Dies that are in the main catalog.  Video tutorial (and photo tutorial) below!

The backside of the tote is even cuter then the front!  I used the Spooky Night paper - one pattern of the paper coordinates with the new Cat Punch!  Just punch the cat out of the preprinted cats on the paper and add it to your project! The witches hat is on another pattern in the pack- I cut it out with my paper snips.

Here is a peek at the K cup hiding inside!

I used some fun new products from the Holiday Catalog to embellish my tote.  Including the new Black Vintage Crochet Trim (SO spooky looking on a project!) and the new Black Rhinestones!

I even added a Black Rhinestone to the center of the hat!

The video tutorial.

Start with a piece of designer paper that is 3 1/2" x 8 1/2".

Place Tear & Tape across the entire top and bottom edges.

Two strips of card stock 1/2" x 8 1/2".

Attach the strips to the Tear & Tape and then curl the entire piece gently with the bone folder.

 Place a piece of Tear & Tape on one end of the back side of the paper.

For the bottom of the tote cut a piece of card stock 3" x 4" and score it at 3/4" on every side.

Make cut up to the intersecting score line in the areas shown - cut out a "wedge" to make the assembly of the box easier.

Assemble with glue dots.

Wrap Tear & Tape around the entire box bottom - staying fairly close to the bottom edge of the box.

Peel off the Tear & Tape backing on the box bottom.  Then remove the backing on the tape on the designer paper end.  Starting with the opposite end (the end that does not have Tear & Tape), start adhering the paper to the box bottom.

Keep gently adhering it all the way around the box.  The punched out cat helps hide this seam at the back of the box.
